The Taylor Family whose son Joel has a congenital heart defect , decided to hold an annual charity event to give something back to the charity who have supported them immensely since Joel’s diagnosis. Previously the family have held bed pushes and sponsored walks before making the Golf Day their annual fundraiser now for the past four years.
To date, the family have now raised a staggering £19,000 pounds for the charity and Joel’s, Dad Robert speaks on the support they have received.
Children’s Heartbeat Trust is a local charity that provides emotional and practical support to babies, children and young people with heart disease, and their families. Congenital heart disease is the most common birth defect in Northern Ireland with on average 200 children per year born with one or more conditions. Roughly one third of these children with require open heart surgery or other interventional procedures.
The Children’s Heartbeat Trust also work closely with Clark Clinic at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children (RBHSC) funding top quality medical equipment, initiatives and research ensuring that children with heart disease in Northern Ireland receive the best care and treatment possible.
A central aim of the charity is to provide family support and the charity works to ensure that each child and family receives the support and information that they need to cope with this illness. The charity manages fifteen family support groups across Northern Ireland, providing continuous advice and support for families with sick children as well as parents of those who have just been recently diagnosed. They also provide counselling services, a teen’s programme, family fun days out and parent accommodation at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.
As a small, local charity, Children’s Heartbeat Trust rely solely on public donations to fund their services and are extremely grateful to local people, organisations and businesses for support to their services.
