Post box delivery brought back to Crawfordsburn
July 2014 - The North Down Advertiser
On January 28th 2014 the village post box in Crawfordsburn was removed, without warning, to facilitate building works at The Old Inn.
No consideration was given to the fact that many senior citizens and others have been using it for many years in its original position. Thanks should be given to Crawfordsburn Service Station for providing a temporary collection point for mail since the removal. Due to the good services and help from North Down MLA Gordon Dunne and local Councillor, Stephen Dunne “The Box” was re-installed on Monday 19th May 2014.
The “Box” has been re-sited as closely as possible to its original position within the bus stop area. Thanks should also be given to the Post Office for their help and co-operation in returning the original box - a valuable facility of village life.
North Down DUP MLA Gordon Dunne has spoken out against Royal Mail at removing Crawfordsburn Villages only Post Box. The MLA added: ‘I am delighted that Crawfordsburn village’s long standing Post Box has been delivered back to its rightful place in Main Street in Crawfordsburn. This is a central feature of the village and has served local people so well for so many years, with post being collected on a daily basis by Royal Mail. Local people were left very shocked and alarmed at this removal and were severely inconvenienced with this service being removed in January. This well maintained and attractive Post Box fits in perfectly with the character and style of Crawfordsburn Village and I am delighted that normal service has finally been resumed.’
