It’s all bling at Redburn and Loughview…
Redburn and Loughview Community Forum has expanded what it is able to offer the local community thanks to a grant from the Housing Executive.
Nearly 80 will benefit from the £5,000 grant the forum received to deliver courses in jewellery making, food hygiene, cooking on a budget as well as relaxing holistic treatments.
So far 30 people have taken the jewellery class with more due to take it later this year. Some of those lucky enough to have already participated have said “it’s brilliant to learn how to make jewellery” and have seen it as an inspiration saying “I could nearly look at this as a job.” Whilst another delighted participant commented “I am getting married in the next couple of years…I could make this all for my own wedding!”
The Community Forum is intending to run a number of courses throughout 2015 including first aid, cookery, DIY and food hygiene as well as offering a variety of holistic treatments.
The Housing Executive’s Local Area Manager, Owen Brady, expressed his delight the team in North Down & Ards were able to support the community. He went on to say…
“We find small grant amounts are just what some community groups need to get started or develop new strands to ongoing projects which meet the local communities’ needs. I look forward to seeing fruits of everyone’s labour at Loughview/Redburn and I know a few in the Bangor office have offered to ‘quality control’ any food on offer!”
Louise Green the Project Worker for Redburn Loughview Community Forum commented:
“The funding from the Housing Executive has proved a terrific boost to the community. It complements the work already achieved through our Timebank initiative and we are delighted with the support.
“The courses on offer will develop participants’ transferable life skills in a fun, exciting way. The feedback to date has been terrific and we’re pleased the courses are proving popular throughout the area.”
