NEW LOOK FOR DRUMBO VILLAGE UNVEILED
September 2019 - The Lisburn Advertiser
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council in partnership with Drumbo Community Association recently hosted a celebration tea to mark the completion of the Environmental Improvement Scheme in the village.
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is pleased to have supported the development of the scheme, which was delivered with further funding support from the NI Rural Development Programme through Lagan Rural Partnership.
The Community Association has been extremely proactive in bringing the public realm enhancement scheme for the center of Drumbo to fruition. In 2016 Drumbo was shortlisted as one of five villages to receive funding through the Northern Ireland Rural Development programme to deliver a Village Renewal Scheme. The council agreed to match fund the rural monies to assist the delivery of the project and works commenced in November 2017.
The scheme focused on improving the area around the historical water pump, upgrading the footpaths and improving the lighting across the village. In addition the council secured funding through the Northern Ireland Housing Associations Rural Development programme to deliver a project in Titterington Gardens which improved parking facilities and pedestrian safety. The Village Improvement Scheme works were carried out by Earney Contracts who worked in partnership with the council and the community association to ensure the vision was delivered as planned and to the highest of standards.
Alderman Allan Ewart MBE, Chair of the Council’s Development Committee and Chair of Lagan Rural Partnership, said: “The completed scheme looks tremendous and really will add something special to the centre of Drumbo village and the surrounding rural community. I, for one, can recognise the economic benefits such a scheme can have in a small rural community. Drumbo is a beautiful scenic village with amazing views over Lisburn Castlereagh and beyond. I know the residents are very proud of their community and will continue to work in partnership to keep the village beautiful.”
