Mary Peters Trust to Benefit from Run Lisburn Entries
June 2015 - The Lisburn Advertiser
The Mary Peters Trust is the Official Charity of the 2015 Run Lisburn Half Marathon, 10K Road Race and 3K Fun Run, which will take place at 6.45pm on Wednesday 17th June 2015.
Participants can register online at www.lisburnhalfmarathon.com for any of the three races.
Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee, said: “The entries are coming in at a fast pace for this annual event, which remains one of Northern Ireland’s largest sporting participation events. It is the first year Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council will manage the event and it is fitting that this milestone coincides with the new Half Marathon route.
"I would like to say thank you to event sponsor Coca-Cola for their headline sponsorship and Coca Cola Zone at the finish line. The support of Lagan Valley LeisurePlex is invaluable as it hosts the entrant bag collection, the finish line and medal collection area.
“Every year runners of all abilities get together to run through the Lisburn area and hopefully for charity with the 10K Road Race or 3K Fun Run option. Once again, the Council would like to have thousands line the streets of Lisburn to cheer on the professional, competitive, and recreational roadrunners as well as those simply running for fun. It is an excellent community family-orientated event.
“Only a few weeks ago there was the first ever city orienteering race and it was a success. Running is both a physical and mental challenge and like all athletes, each entrant prepares for their chosen race. It would be fantastic to see all the participants pass the finishing line in ‘personal best times’ and that their supporters get into the spirit, enjoying the activities and fun-filled atmosphere on the evening,” he concluded.
£1 from each entry will go to this year’s Mayoral Charity, The Mary Peters Trust.
The Mayor, Councillor Thomas Beckett, added: “As a runner myself I would like to encourage as many residents and runners from further afield to participate in one of the three races offered by this annual event. My Mayoral Charity, The Mary Peters Trust, will benefit from each entry and I would ask those participating to raise funds for my charity, if they do not already have one in mind. This local charity provides support to young and talented athletes across Northern Ireland by creating opportunities and developing their existing skills as they train, through both financial assistance and in an advisory capacity.
“Its work is invaluable is it provides assistance to help those young athletes who show high levels of dedication and commitment. There are many such young people across Lisburn and Castlereagh and I chose this charity, as I wanted to be able to help give something back to them for their effort."
To register for any of the three races simply log on to www.lisburnhalfmarathon.com and complete the online application form. The website also has a downloadable training schedule geared towards beginners interested in running the Half Marathon. Printed application forms will be available from Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council leisure facilities, local sports shops, Sport NI and various outlets displaying the Coca-Cola Run Lisburn Half Marathon poster.
