Industrial Decarbonisation Event in conjunction with Invest NI

August 2024 - The Lisburn Advertiser

Over 35 businesses from across Lisburn and Castlereagh turned out for a dedicated workshop recently focused on industrial decarbonisation.

The workshop formed part of a wider project led by InvestNI called Industrial Decarbonisation for Northern Ireland (ID-NI). The ID-NI takes an innovative dual-approach to address carbon reduction in Northern Ireland providing businesses with support, advice, tools and metrics to enable them to increase productivity while reducing emissions.

The session offered an opportunity for businesses to learn more about how the Innovate UK funded industrial decarbonisation initiative can help boost business.

Through the ID-NI, Invest NI is seeking to establish four clusters to support businesses in terms of efficiencies, investment and financial support.

Speaking at the event Ald Michelle Guy, Chair of our Regeneration and Growth Committee said: “The government has set out ambitious targets of achieving net zero carbon by 2050. This is uniquely challenging for all business sectors, from those operating large industrial processing sites to SMEs and agri-food businesses, who are the backbone of our council area.”

“The event provided a unique opportunity to discuss and explore the potential benefits and challenges at a local and regional level and urge businesses to get involved.”

Led by Invest NI, the project is a consortium of stakeholders including Manufacturing NI, Mineral Products Association, Ulster University, Queens and all 11 councils.  These partners will be building on a GB best practice decarbonisation project known as "Repowering the Black Country” Virtual Zero Carbon Hub - Virtual Zero Carbon Hub (zerocarbonhubs.co.uk)
