You Can Now Recycle More Plastic
September 2016 - The East Down Advertiser
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is pleased to announce an immediate improvement to the Blue bin service in the former Down District area.
Residents can now recycle more plastic waste products through the enhanced service. The new additional items are that can be recycled include plastic food trays, plastic egg cartons, plastic tubs such as sweet containers and plastic pots (food and plant pots to include yoghurt pots and margarine containers). All items need to be clean and free from food and soil.
Alongside the new additional plastic items, envelopes (with the windows removed) can now also be recycled.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said, “This is a step in the right direction for recycling in our district. This immediate service improvement, together with existing materials included in Blue bin collections, will benefit residents and work towards reducing associated refuse costs. It is important that we maximise recycling services provided by the Council and as a result of the enhanced Blue bin service, we hope to see our recycling rate of 40% increase.”
