Staff from Cancer Fund for Children’s Daisy Lodge Therapeutic Short Break facility in Newcastle are taking on the Belfast City Marathon to raise money for Cancer Fund for Children.

The team, led by Hospitality Manager, Joan Burden will take part in the annual event on Bank Holiday Monday (May 2) to raise funds for the charity that strives to ensure local families do not have to face cancer alone.

Joan is urging people to join her and help the charity to continue providing practical, emotional and financial support as well as free therapeutic short breaks.

A phenomenal 15,000 runners took part in the Marathon last year with almost 350 people taking part for Cancer Fund for Children. This year the charity has set itself quite the target and hopes that 500 people will choose to #RunFor Cancer Fund for Children and help raise a staggering £60k.

Joan said: “The Belfast City Marathon is a fantastic, unforgettable event for anyone who wants to take on a personal mental or fitness challenge. It’s also a great way to get your friends or colleagues involved in a really fun day out by entering as a relay team.
“Cancer Fund for Children relies on fundraising from events such as the Belfast Marathon to help provide vital services. The charity understands the devastating impact a cancer diagnosis and treatment can have on the whole family. Its team of experienced Specialists helps families cope with the impact cancer has on their lives by supporting them during and after treatment and sadly in some cases, bereavement.”
