Down Policing and Community Safety Partnership Seeks Your Views

01/03/14 - The East Down Advertiser

In the few weeks since the launch of the Community Safety Wardens, Down Policing & Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) is pleased to report that the initiative is already proving a great success.

A lot of very useful work has been undertaken by the Wardens to make Down district a safer place in which to live, work or visit.

The Wardens have been undertaking patrols to address anti-social behaviour and engaging with local communities. In addition they have been conducting surveys on behalf of the PCSP to determine the areas of concern in respect of community safety from residents and visitors to the district.

As the PCSP is keen to remain responsive to community needs and concerns your views are being sought on the issues that are important to you. The results from these surveys are used to determine the future work of the PCSP and play a part in developing plans, strategies and responses to identified issues.

To ensure that these surveys are representative, consultation takes place with a diverse range of people from all walks of life to ensure that the PCSP addresses the right issues in a timely way.

While you may not be approached by our Community Safety Wardens and asked to participate in the survey that does not mean that you cannot have your say. A link to the survey can be found on the Down District Council website www.downdc.gov.uk and visiting the PCSP web page where you can complete the survey and contribute to shaping the future of your community.

Councillor Willie Clarke, Chairperson Down PCSP praised the work of the Community Safety Wardens stating, “As Chairman of Down PCSP I am delighted with the initial success of this pilot project which demonstrates the PCSP’s commitment to taking creative approaches to improve community safety throughout the district. I would encourage as many people as possible to complete the survey if approached by the Wardens or take some time to complete it on line as the results from same are used to formulate responses to problems and address community safety concerns.”

The PCSP programme will run until 31 March 2014 on a pilot basis following which an intensive evaluation with all stakeholders will be undertaken and a decision made as to whether a long-term scheme can be introduced in the future as part of its annual strategy and action plan.
