Asda Downpatrick volunteers take to the beach to help keep Ballyhornan tidy
September 2021 - The East Down Advertiser
Asda Downpatrick has joined forces with volunteers in the local community to help tidy up rubbish around a local beauty spot, Ballyhornan beach, in collaboration with Downpatrick community collectives – who volunteered and supported.
Around 6 bags of rubbish were collected by Asda colleagues who worked together to hold the litter pick at Ballyhornan beach.
The team worked hard to clear the area of rubbish, which included plastic bottles, coffee cups and wrappers with an army of 7 volunteers, along with a group of children who were at the beach for the day and decided to help.
The litter pick was conducted as part of Asda’s Picnic Ranger campaign which is running across the summer to encourage communities to love where they live, discover new beauty spots to prevent overcrowding and encourage people to picnic sustainably, take home their rubbish and look after their local environments.
Linda Owens, Community Champion at Asda Downpatrick, said:
"It was brilliant joining forces with our local community to help tackle litter in our area, everyone really got stuck in to keep our lovely town looking its best. We really love organising litter picks - it’s something we’re very passionate about and want to ensure we also educate people on taking their litter home so we can keep our community spaces looking welcoming!”
The litter pick was organised as a simple act of community love and care, which Asda colleagues across the country regularly take part in and organise as a way of giving back to the local area.
