Successful Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser

December 2016 - The North Down Advertiser

Jamie Cromie, Paddy Mc Grath and their supporters are pictured with Councillor Scott Wilson and Mayor of Ards and North Down, Alderman Deborah Girvan.

Alliance Councillor Scott Wilson has praised the members of a Bangor gym who raised over £1400 in a sponsored cycling event.

Councillor Wilson said: "Pure Gym Manager Jamie Cromie and Personal Trainer Paddy McGrath both recently cycled for a mammoth 24 hours to raise money for Action Cancer's Breast Cancer Awareness campaign.

"Their efforts were assisted by Ground Espresso and Pure Gym team members, who cycled for 1 hour each over the 24 hours alongside them. In total they have raised a fantastic £1400.00 for this very worthwhile cause and I congratulate them all."

The event was part of Action Cancer's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, in partnership with Gordons Chemists, Menarys and Tempest. The campaign works to raise awareness of the prevalence of breast cancer and to encourage women to be breast aware, and self-refer to their G.P. if they have any concerns. Throughout the month they also raised awareness of a breast screening programme available to women aged 40-49 and over 70.

Throughout the year Action Cancer run a number of health awareness campaigns to encourage people to be proactive about their health, to recognise signs and symptoms of cancer and visit their G.P. If cancer can be caught at an early stage then chances of survival are much higher.
