Dunne meets PSNI on Holywood Awareness Event

November 2016 - The North Down Advertiser

North Down DUP MLA Gordon Dunne with Sergeants John McCormick and Arnie O’Neill along with Brian Cardy and Councillor Stephen Dunne

North Down DUP MLA Gordon Dunne has met with the PSNI at a Public Awareness Event held in Holywood Town Centre. The MLA added:

‘Unfortunately we have seen a worrying number of incidents of crime within the Holywood and Bangor areas in recent months, particularly both domestic and commercial burglaries. This trend is most concerning and I believe it was useful to have the PSNI on the streets meeting local people, listening to their concerns and providing them with advice and information. Local people need to see an active and visible Police presence both during the day and at night, not only does it reassure the law abiding public but a visible Policing presence also helps to deter potential criminals.

People need to be vigilant and ensure that all their doors and windows are locked in properties and cars to minimise any risk. Local people also need to look out for their neighbours and report any suspicious activity immediately to the PSNI, particularly as the darker nights are now approaching. We have seen a gradual reduction in service from the PSNI in Holywood with the recent closure of the Public Enquiry Desk at Holywood PSNI station. It is therefore imperative that the PSNI locally do all they can to demonstrate to the wider community, that they are active in keeping our streets and community safe.’
