The Pre-loved Christmas Toy Scheme is Back!

November 2023 - The Lisburn Advertiser

For the second year running, Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council and Habitat for Humanity are delivering a Pre-loved Christmas Toy Scheme.

Councillor Caleb McCready, Chair of Environment & Sustainability Committee said:  “We are excited to be partnering with Habitat for Humanity again to help local families get quality, affordable pre-loved toys for their children this Christmas.

“Every year, lots of toys which are still in great condition are thrown away as children outgrow them.  We are inviting residents to donate their gently-used, pre-loved toys at one of our drop-off points so that they can be enjoyed by another family this Christmas.

“By donating toys for re-use or buying pre-loved toys, residents are also helping the environment by reducing the number of toys that end up in landfill, helping to fight climate change.  Last year through the scheme, an estimated 11.2 tonnes of waste was diverted from landfill.”

Jenny Williams, Chief Executive, Habitat for Humanity Ireland said: “Christmas can be a difficult time for many families and this year will be no exception.  We are delighted to continue our partnership with Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council and give local families access to good quality pre-loved toys at affordable prices.

“We so much appreciated the community support for the project last year and are hoping to repeat that success this year, with the help of the generous residents of Lisburn and Castlereagh.

“The donated toys will be sorted, displayed and sold in our Christmas Toy Shop at Habitat Restore Lisburn and at one-off pop-up toy shops in Carryduff, Maghaberry and Ballyoran.

“Toys must be clean, complete and in good condition/working order. Games and puzzles must be in their original boxes.  Sorry, we cannot accept soft toys.”
