The Deputy Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Alexander Redpath accepts the 'Best Entertainment by a Council' Award alongside: Elaine Lappin, VIC Supervisor; Jim Rose, Director of Leisure & Community Services; Councillor Andrew Ewing; Alderman Geraldine Rice MBE; Councillor Luke Poots and Alderman Jim Dillon MBE, Vice-Chair of the Council's Development Committee.

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council was delighted to win the ‘Best Family Entertainment by a Council’ Award at the recent Families First Awards evening in the La Mon Hotel.

There were a number of awards presented to organisations and individuals at the evening including: Best Childminder, Cool Kids Club, Best Family Day Out, Child Superhero and Amazing Act of Kindness to name a few.

Councillor Alexander Redpath, Deputy Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, receiving the Award on behalf of the Council said: “It is an honour to accept this award which acknowledges the hard work of council officers to deliver an annual programme of entertainment for residents and visitors alike to the Council area.  The Council is committed to running family events such as the Mayor’s Parade, Twilight Nights by Fairylight and an Easter Fun Day in the City Centre and the Christmas Lights Switch On.

“On behalf of the Council I would like to thank everyone who voted for us and I hope that you will be pleased with the calendar of events that the Council is running and supporting in 2016.  I look forward to seeing large crowds attend events such as the Circuit of Ireland, which is once again stopping in Lisburn, Balmoral Show, the Mayor’s Parade and Family Fun Day in May; the Run Lisburn Half Marathon, 10K Road Race and Fun Run in June; and the Park Life summer programme of events.

“May I also take this opportunity to thank Families First for organising this splendid event and publicly acknowledging a lot of the good work that goes on across Northern Ireland.  It was a pleasure to meet so many high calibre entrants at the gala evening,” he concluded.

Voting for the award winners was done online via the Families First website with only one vote being accepted per IP address; and the Awards were also promoted on social media and radio.
