July 2015 - The Ards Advertiser

Celebrity chef Danny Millar gave a culinary masterclass to prospective students at South Eastern Regional College (SERC).

Multi-award winning chef Danny Millar, Director at Balloo Inns treated prospective hospitality and catering students by hosting a unique masterclass at SERC recently at the College’s Downpatrick Campus.

The Co. Down-based chef, famous for reaching BBC2's Great British Menu final gave the culinary masterclass. Danny explains: “I am delighted to be hosting this masterclass to help inspire the next generation of chefs. The catering and hospitality industry is growing and we need to continue to attract the highest caliber of talent we need to fulfill our ambitious goals.”

The star, who regularly appears on the BBC's Saturday Kitchen, has had a successful working relationship with SERC for the past few years delivering student training sessions, providing placements and judging various inter-campus competitions.
The event is open to the public and all 16-21 year olds interested in studying hospitality and catering courses at SERC.
Aimed at budding chefs the masterclass is designed to give visitors a ‘behind the senses’ taste of the hospitality industry. A highlight of the event will be a cookery demonstration and taster session followed by a question and answer session where Danny shared his culinary expertise and pass on his expert tips.

SERC Head of School for Business, Hospitality and Tourism, James Currie said "The event is designed to raise awareness of the range of hospitality courses and apprenticeship programmes available at the College. We are delighted that Danny has agreed to the event. It will be an honour to have him here and for him to share his culinary expertise with our prospective students. Hopefully it will open the student’s minds to their full potential and inspire them to pursue their career ambitions. The masterclass will be a fantastic opportunity for young chefs to learn the secrets of how to excel within the competitive industry.”

Students will be able to find out more about SERC’s range of hospitality courses and how they can benefit from his expert tutelage by undertaking an apprenticeship with Danny at one of his award winning restaurants.

SERC offer a range of apprenticeship programmes including Professional Cookery and Front of House Management.
