‘No Excuse’ Dog Fouling Campaign Begins

No Excuse’ Dog Fouling Campaign Begins

A new advertising campaign highlighting the high price to pay for falling foul of dog control laws has been launched by Ards Borough Council.

Featuring Charlie, a dog who is reflecting on the ‘most expensive walk’ he has ever had, after his owner received an £80 fine, the new poster will be visible in local shops and public buildings, as well as on an advertising trailer which will tour dog fouling hot spots around the Borough.

The new poster, which also encourages local people to report irresponsible dog owners, has been welcomed by Councillor Robert Adair, Chairman of the Council Services Committee:

“This kind of advertising campaign helps to raise awareness of the consequences of allowing your dog to foul and being caught, while also encouraging members of the public to help the Council by reporting those dog owners who witness irresponsible dog owners not cleaning up after their pets,” he said. “It is another strand to the Council’s on-going work to deal with dog fouling issues, and I look forward to more work in the coming months”.

As well as existing enforcement action and education programmes, the Council also hopes to introduce new environmental wardens, as well as other new promotional and community projects to target dog fouling.
