Creative Showcase Raises More Than £600 For Charity

February 2015 - The Ards Advertiser

More than £600 was raised for charity at last month’s creative showcase in Newtownards.

As well as giving the economy a boost, the two-day Creative Peninsula Craft Fayre also ensured that The Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Daisies Café, Newtownards funds were increased by £630.28, thanks to a £1 admission charge for adult visitors to the event.

The fayre was organised by Ards Crafts, Ards Borough Council’s craft development service, with proceeds from admission going to the chosen charities of the Mayor of Ards, Councillor Philip Smith.

“I would like to thank all the visitors who donated £1 to two great causes, raising over £600 and proving that a small amount really does go a long way when we contribute together.  This money will make a big difference to the local work of two important charities.”

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is a UK-wide charity that works locally in Northern Ireland, making a daily difference to the lives of people with cystic fibrosis, and those who care for them.  The charity offers practical support through a team of Public Affairs Officers and a telephone helpline, as well as offering a range of welfare grants.

Daisies Café provides an alternative form of day carefor people with learning disabilities and mental illness through training and employment opportunities in a commercial environment.

The Mayor of Ards, Councillor Philip Smith is pictured at the handover of the cheque, with representatives from Daisies Cafe, Newtownards and The Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
